In this study of a possible link of phenylethylamine to the antidepressant effects of exercise, urine samples of twenty men were tested for the rise in phenylacetic levels after strenuous exercise. The concentration of phenylacetic acid levels correlates to PEA (phenylethylamine) levels. Increasing the levels of Phenylethylamine is known to have antidepressant effects and the study determined that phenylethylamine may be linked to the therapeutic effects of physical exercise on depression.
